Minister’s message
March 24th, 2010
Another Easter is almost here. It is a time of religious festival and Christian celebration.  For many it is simply a time of holiday along with many traditions like eggs and bunnies etc. which have been advertised and in our shops for quite some time.
It is easy to complain that Easter, like Christmas, has been completely commercialised and the reason for it forgotten or ignored.
What is harder to do is to go against the flow and tell others, gently and in love, what we believe and why we celebrate it.
Easter is a sign of God’s love and power.  The often quoted verse from John’s gospel chapter 3 and verse 16, but now probably totally unknown to most, sums it up.  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall nor perish but have eternal life.
We cannot celebrate Easter without remembering the agony of Good Friday ending with Jesus death on the cross.  To do so is to ignore the great cost of God’s free gift of life to us.
We cannot fully celebrate Easter without accepting that gift offered to all and becoming Easter people who live a resurrection life.
There have been countless attempts to disprove the resurrection, the central point of Easter and many hold on to one or another of them.  Some simply claim that the world has moved beyond the need for anything like Easter.  Yet Easter is still celebrated throughout the world, and for the right reasons.
Don’t try to prove that Christ has risen.  Believe in the risen Christ and live a life that shows it to others.
Have a wonderful Easter.                                   Jim Peacock
